LEWISTON: Old photos sought

Two local authors are seeking photos of Lewiston from the 1940s through the 1960s for a book they are writing about the town’s history.

Photos they are seeking include any of Helm’s Grocery Store, Hansen’s Fish Market, the early post office, the cold storage on Ninth Street or Clark’s Burger House.

They would also like photos of any homes that were torn down to create the plaza that now houses HSBC Bank, any railroad or trolley images, Schneider’s Restaurant before the fire, early drugstores on Center Street, Bunjo Motel, property on north or south of Center before development of residential housing, etc.

The authors, Suzanne Dietz and Amy Freiremuth of Youngstown, are working with Arcadia Publishing Company to produce a local Then & Now Series about Lewiston.

The book will consist of photographs from Lewiston and the surrounding areas comparing images from past days and current times.

Those who have images they would like to have considered for the book are asked to call Dietz at 745-7548 or Freiremuth at 531-2651; or e-mail: photos@beaudesigns.biz.

Do you think cigarette sales to non-Native American customers should be taxed on reservations?

Yes. Items should be taxed like they are everywhere else.
No, the indian reservations are sovereign land and they are selling them on their land.
Not up to me. Native Americans decide the rules on their land.
Don't care. Smoking isn't good for you.
