Man who triggered Pendleton standoff Monday found dead in basement

Members of the Niagara County Sheriff's SWAT team found a Paddock Ridge Road man dead in his basement after an hours-long standoff Monday afternoon in Pendleton.

Sheriff James Voutour said SWAT team members entered the home shortly after 4:30 p.m. and made the discovery.

The sheriff's office sent out an NY-Alert message around 2:30 p.m. Monday urging residents in the area of Paddock Ridge Road to stay in their homes until further notice.

The area was cordoned off by sheriff's personnel and the SWAT team and an APC were brought into the area.

Voutour said the man in the home had made threats to harm himself, triggering Monday's events.
