Niagara Gazette — Falls police say they may have spoiled the holidays for a city man who showed up at the post office Thursday to collect what appeared to be some presents.
Narcotics detectives said they stopped Michael Crumpton as he was walking out with two large boxes and took him into custody.
"We received information that (Crumpton) was about to receive a package of pot," Narcotics Division Lt. Bryan DalPorto said. "We worked with investigators from the Postal Inspection Service and we were waiting when (Crumpton) picked his package up."
Investigators said Crumpton had no idea that his shipment was about to be intercepted.
"He picked it up just like he was getting a Christmas present," DalPorto said. "I don't think you can order stuff like that on Amazon, but maybe he got a Cyber Monday special."
Inside the packages, investigators found five pounds of marijuana. DalPorto said the pot was packaged to try to avoid detection by drug-sniffing dogs.
"It was in vacuum-sealed plastic bags and then the bags were packed in old (dirty) T-shirts," he said.
DalPorto said Detective John Faso led the investigation.
Crumpton was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana.
