A Lockport man who fled from a one-car crash in Cambria early Sunday morning was found about two hours later and taken into custody by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies.

Responding to the crash near 3540 Lower Mountain Road about 2 a.m., deputies discovered the driver had fled the area on foot. A K-9 from the Lewiston Police Department was brought in to search for the driver but was unsuccessful.

About 3:45 a.m., a sheriff's captain located Aaron McMichael, 32, 5195 Upper Mountain Road, near Shawnee and Stoelting roads where he was evaluated by an EMS crew and signed off on medical treatment.

He told deputies prior to the accident he had been at a Ridge Road bar where he had drank eight or nine beers. After the crash, he said he fled the area to avoid a DWI charge.

He failed field sobriety tests and was charged. He refused to take a chemical test.

McMichael was charged with DWI, refusal to take a breath test, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to use a designated lane and moving from a lane unsafely.

The residents at 3540 Lower Mountain Road were notified of the damage to their property.
