Power expected to be restored in North End by 8:45 p.m.

NIAGARA FALLS —

Falls police say a power blackout has darkened the city's North End.

About 2,000 people lost power after an apparent transformer explosion at around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Fairfield Avenue and Ninth Street.

Police said National Grid crews are working in the problem and hope to have power restored by 8:45 p.m.

Officers report no problems as a result of the blackout.
