Niagara Gazette — Former teacher Thomas Vitello Sr. is looking to represent the city of Niagara Falls as a member of the board of education.

A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, Vitello has a bachelor’s degree from Niagara University. After graduation, he went on to teach physical education in the district, where he also coached football and baseball.

Since leaving the district, Vitello has worked in private industry and for the Niagara Falls Water Board. He is a member of Steelworkers Local 9434-00, where he’s served, among other positions, as president.

“My educational background and work experiences give me an understanding of the problems the Niagara Falls School District faces,” Vitello said. “I want to improve our schools and school system and share my experiences to help in that effort.”

In addition to his work and education background, Vitello is also a member of the Police and Judges Association.

Vitello said Niagara Falls faces difficult financial times and tough decisions must be made. He said he’s prepared for the task.

“We must make those decisions based on the facts that will not only benefit our community but most importantly give our children the education they deserve,” he said.
