Western New York's first accumulation of snow this season is being blamed for accidents that killed a woman in Chautauqua County and caused a 20-vehicle pile-up on the Thruway.

State police tell local media outlets that a woman was killed Monday night when her car collided with another vehicle during snow conditions Route 20 in the town of Pomfret.

Authorities say slick road conditions also caused a 20-vehicle chain reaction crash on the ramp from Interstate 290 to Interstate 190 in the town of Tonawanda.

The ramp was closed for more than two hours after the Monday night crash. Minor injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service says up to 5 inches of snow has fallen on areas south of Buffalo.
