Niagara Gazette — Starpoint schools were in lockout mode for a short period Tuesday afternoon, after a bullet was found on a walkway in front of Fricano Primary School.
Superintendent C. Douglas Whelan said the lockout was ordered after a parent found the .22-caliber bullet near the flagpole and turned it into the Fricano office. Niagara County Sheriff's deputies arrived shortly to search Fricano and Regan Intermediate schools, along with Starpoint building and grounds employees.
Fricano and Regan Intermediate schools went into lockout while they were searched. The search yielded nothing, Whelan said. To be sure, the search was extended into the middle school.
During the search, a middle school student told administration a fellow student found a .22-caliber bullet shell and hid it in the middle school gym's bleachers. The shell was found by school administration.
The search was then extended into all of Starpoint's buildings, concluding around 1:45 p.m., Whelan said.
A letter has been sent home to parents explaining Tuesday's events.
