Lockport Mayor Michael Tucker announces sudden resignation
Staff Reports Niagara Gazette
Lockport Mayor Michael W. Tucker will resign effective today.
Tucker confirmed today would be his last day. He's served as mayor since 2004, serving previously as an alderman.
An announcement is expected to be made at 2 p.m. today.
Tucker told Channel 4 he is in the back end of his third current term and is exploring opportunities in the private sector. He told News 4 he probably doesn’t have as much passion for the job as he once did, and now is as good a time as any to step down.
Tucker says his resignation has nothing to do with an investigation into alleged misuse of a credit card by a city employee.
Youth and Recreation Director Melissa Junke used one of the city’s two credit cards — one held by Tucker and the other by City Treasurer Michael White. Junke spent a little more than $9,000 on an $85-per-ticket golf tournament.
Independent Attorney Brian Doyle is now investigating the matter. That investigation is supposed to last three to four weeks.
