Niagara Gazette — More than 30 fire companies joined members of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. to line Center Street in Lewiston on Saturday to mourn the loss of a fellow firefighter who died in a motorcycle accident earlier this week.
The local fire companies were on hand Saturday as part of a ceremony honoring the life of Thomas Burley, a volunteer firefighter who was killed Tuesday following a motorcycle crash in the Town of Cambria.
Burley, a five-year member of the Youngstown fire company and a past member of the department-sponsored Firefighting Explorer Post 911, was killed while returning home from the Firefighter-1 training course orientation. Burley also served as a security police officer with the New York Air National Guard’s 107th Air Wing.
Funeral services were held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 620 Center St., Lewiston.
Memorial contributions are being accepted and may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co., 625 Third St., P.O. Box 387, Youngstown, N.Y. 14174.
