Niagara Gazette — An Amherst man and Lockport woman remain at the Erie County Medical Center, recovering from injuries sustained in a Wednesday evening motorcycle and van crash, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said.

Motorcycle driver William A. Carrigan, 56, is in critical condition while his passenger Karin Young, 51, is alert and conscious.

Both were taken to ECMC via Mercy Flight after the motorcycle they were riding on crashed into a van that police say turned into their path at the intersection of South Transit and Rapids roads in the Town of Lockport shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, an initial accident investigation by the NCSO indicates that the motorcycle was northbound on South Transit Road, when the minivan, which was at the Rapids Road intersection and facing south, turned in front of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the minivan and the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were ejected from the motorcycle.

The minivan operator was treated at the scene and released.

The accident remains under investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Unit. No charges were filed at this time. Wendelville, Rapids and South Lockport Fire Cos. assisted at the scene.
