Tops gas kiosk robbed in the Town of Tonawanda

An armed robber targeted the Tops Friendly Markets gas kiosk on Sheridan Drive on Sunday, Town of Tonawanda police said in a statement.

"(The suspect) forced his way into the gas kiosk, brandishing a knife and demanded cash from the clerk," the statement reads. "The clerk complied with the demand and an undetermined amount of cash was taken."

The incident took place at 6:40 p.m., and no injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20s who is about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He had a mustache, a chubby face and was wearing a gray zip-up sweatshirt, a blue or white shirt and black sneakers.

He fled north on Delaware Road on foot, and town detectives said they are searching for him and processing evidence.

A few minutes after the robbery, a Dodge Charger was seen speeding north on Delaware Street in the City of Tonawanda.

"The vehicle was able to elude being stopped," the town police statement reads. "It is unclear if this incident is related to the robbery."

There were unconfirmed reports Sunday night that the Charger had been speeding in excessive of 100 mph on River Road a few hours prior to the robbery.

Town police are encouraging anyone with information on the robbery to call authorities at 879-6613 or the confidential tip line at 879-6606.
