Niagara Gazette — A pair of new faces have been added to the city’s water board.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Paul Dyster announced this week the appointment of Falls residents Gretchen Leffler and Lawrence Edwards to the Niagara Falls Water Board.

Leffler replaces member Nick Marchelos and Edwards replaces Michael McNally whose appointments expired Dec. 31.

Leffler is a regional vice president for the American Cancer Society where she oversees the organization’s Western New York operations, including its office in Amherst and the Buffalo Hope Lodge. Prior to her current position, Leffler was the public relations and field director for the Girl Scout Council of Niagara County and also worked as a teacher with the Niagara Falls School District.

Edwards is a contract administrator at DuPont in Niagara Falls where he oversees all contractor work including labor and services, compliance issues, quality control and budgets and work scheduling.

Prior to DuPont, Edwards was a certified welder with the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 22, and worked at J.W. Danforth Co. Edwards is also a journeyman plumber and steamfitter and completed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and New York state training for asbestos removal supervision.

“I am humbled and proud that Governor Cuomo had the confidence to select me to serve the residents of Niagara Falls in a new and exciting capacity as a member of the Niagara Falls Water Board,” Leffler said in a statement released by the water board this week. “I have worked hard for 40 years to best serve my community and I look forward to this new opportunity to continue to do so.”

“I am honored that Mayor Dyster has selected me to be a member of the Niagara Falls Water Board,” Edwards said. “I look forward to working with my fellow water board members and management to further improve operations and provide a quality product and service to the residents of Niagara Falls.”

Water Board Chairman Ted Janese also welcomed the newest members of the board. “I think Ms. Leffler and Mr. Edwards are great additions to the Niagara Falls Water Board,” Janese said. “Their qualifications, experience and knowledge of the Niagara Falls community and the challenges we face will serve as real assets to the water board, and I look forward to working with them on behalf of our ratepayers.”

Leffler and Edwards’ first terms will expire Dec. 31, 2015.
