Copper taken from railroad in Gasport

Genesee Valley Transportation Co. reported the theft of copper ground wires from several areas along its railroad tracks Monday.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, a signal supervisor complained several copper ground wires were removed from the cabinets along the tracks at Main Street in the hamlet some time since May 2 when work was completed along the railroad.

The supervisor said copper ground wires were tampered with at Royalton Center Road, damage was done at Bolton Road, four ground wires were removed from the State Street cabinet and 1 1/2 wires were removed from the Central Avenue cabinet as well.

Ground wires are one-foot copper wires with a loop on one end.

The value of damage and losses is $230, according to the sheriff's office.
