The hunter found dead in Porter on Saturday night has been identified as George Lebrun, 50, of Wilson.
Niagara County Sheriff's investigators say the death appears to have resulted from a medical emergency and is not considered suspicious at this time. The incident is under investigation, though.
Lebrun was found in a wooded area off of Youngstown-Wilson and Ransomville roads around 7 p.m. Saturday, about a half hour after being reported missing by his hunting partner.
The hunting partner called police after not hearing from Lebrun for about two hours — despite the fact he was carrying a cell phone and a radio.
Sheriff's dispatchers using the last signal from Lebrun's cell phone, determined its location as south of 2408 Youngstown-Wilson Road.
As police were searching that area, the man who had made the report called about 7 p.m. to say he had found the missing hunter in the woods and he appeared dead.
Once again, dispatchers, using GPS technology, directed police to the location, more than 1,000 feet from the road.
Police determined the man was dead and crime scene and investigators were called in, along with the state environmental police.
