— LEWISTON - A motor vehicle accident on Walmore Road claimed the lives of two residents of the Tuscarora Indian Nation early Monday.
Lewiston police were called to a report of a car accident at 2:14 a.m. Monday in the 5500 block of Walmore Road. Upon arrival, police said they found a 1997 Buick LeSabre broken into two parts off the shoulder of the roadway, with one section wrapped around a tree and on fire and another section overturned about 30 feet away with two passengers still inside.
Police said both occupants were unresponsive when officers arrived and were later pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical services personnel.
Police identifies the victims as 32-year-old Brandon M. Rickard, the driver of the vehicle, and 29-year-old Danyle White, who was a passenger. Both victims were residents of the Tuscarora Indian Nation, according to police.
Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling northbound on Walmore Road when it crossed over into the oncoming lane and continued off the roadway, striking a tree and breaking in two. Police believe speed may have played a role in the accident, although they said other causes are still being examined.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office assisted the Lewiston Police Department in photographing the scene and with the accident reconstruction. Police said no charges have been filed at this time and the matter remains under investigation.
