Sen. Charles Schumer says there may be some relief in sight for travelers stuck in long lines at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo.

In December, Schumer called on Customs and Border Protection officials to explain the long wait times and lane closings. Now he says he has secured a commitment from Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson for more agents if Schumer is successful in getting more funding for the upcoming fiscal year.

The Senate appropriations bill is currently being negotiated. Funding levels for Customs and Border Protection are scheduled to be released by Wednesday.

Schumer said Saturday that more agents will help reduce wait times at the busy border crossing and ensure that the commercial truck pre-inspection pilot program is a success.
