POLICE REPORTS: Nov. 9, 2008

LOCKPORT ROAD

Falls woman critical after car crash

A Niagara Falls woman was in critical condition Saturday at Erie County Medical Center following a two-car accident Friday on Lockport Road.

Gloria Cinotti was flown to ECMC by Mercy Flight. Her daughter, Brittany Price, was taken to Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department, a Ford Ranger operated by William Gibbs of Niagara Falls was westbound on Lockport Road when it entered the eastbound lane, narrowly missing an eastbound vehicle. The truck entered the grass in front of 5210 Lockport Road, struck a mailbox, then returned to the road, striking a Ford Crown Victoria operated by Edwin Price of Niagara Falls.

Both drivers were taken to ECMC. Gibbs was treated in the emergency room on Friday and released.

The condition of Brittany Price was not released by Children’s Hospital.

Fire companies from Wendelville, Shawnee and Cambria responded.

Woman escapes kidnapping, assault

A man attempted to apparently kidnap and sexually assault a 21-year-old woman Saturday afternoon before she escaped.

The woman reported walking down Portage Road behind Tops Markets toward Cedar Avenue when ahead of her a black four-door sedan — possibly a Ford Fusion or similar vehicle — stopped. The driver, a white male in his 40s, about six-feet tall with black hair, got out and appeared to search for something in his back seat.

As the woman passed the parked car, the man grabbed her from behind and dragged her to the car, where he placed her in the back seat. He reportedly pulled the woman’s shirt up and told her, “We’re going to do something.” He shut the door and climbed back into the driver’s seat and began to drive away.

The woman opened her door and jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran to call police, according to the police report.

She was not injured and declined medical treatment.

• STABBING: A 45-year-old man had been asking another man for beer money but the man refused, according to reports. The suspect then stabbed the man who would not give him money in the right eye. Police found witnesses by following a trail of blood from a store to a Niagara Street apartment. The victim was transported to Memorial Medical Center.

• SHOOTING: Allen Hobbs, 86, 2913 Lewiston Road, was charged at 2:45 p.m. Saturday with reckless endangerment after shooting handguns in his house for no apparent reason. When Hobbs was apparently disarmed, police entered and found two .38-caliber pistols, a .22-caliber rifle and a 12-gauge shot gun. Dozens of rounds of ammunition and bullets were also found laying around his bedroom, police reported.

• DRUG BUST: Three young Ontario men were charged at the Rainbow Bridge for trying to smuggle drugs across the border around 5 p.m. Saturday. The three Brampton, Ont., men charged are: Andrew Seetarum, 21, 25 Prouse Drive, James. A. Adams, 22, 65 Red Maple Road and Cameron Patton, 21, 426 Bartley Bull Parkway. In their vehicle, border agents found three sealed bags of marijuana totaling 15.2 grams and a bag of power, which tested positive as .6 grams of cocaine, according to the police report.
