CLARENCE

Motorcyclist hits deer on Transit

A Lockport man is recovering from injuries he suffered when he struck a deer while riding his motorcycle in Clarence Wednesday evening.

New York State Police said James J. Huntz, 59, was riding his motorcycle north on Transit Road in the Town of Clarence, about a half-mile north of Roll Road, when a deer entered the roadway from the west shoulder.

The deer struck Huntz, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle, the report said.

The East Amherst Fire Department treated Huntz at the scene, and he was transported to Erie County Medical Center. He was listed in stable condition Thursday.



Niagara Falls

• ARREST: A Falls teen was arrested after a theft from a Pine Avenue business. Christopher L. Hosey, 16, 1008 19th St., was charged with petit larceny and resisting arrest. Officers said they spotted Hosey as he grabbed a shirt from a rack in front of a store in the 1600 block of Pine Avenue early Thursday evening. Hosey is also accused of fighting with officers as they took him into custody.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a burglary in the 400 block of Seventh Street. A property owner told officers that sometime between 3 p.m. Monday and 4 p.m. Thursday, someone broke into a home he had just renovated by prying open a door. The owner said $10,000 worth of copper pipe and other metals were taken.

City of Lockport

• VANDALISM: Christopher M. Howard, 20, 6337 Robinson Road, Apt. 11, was charged Wednesday night with fourth-degree criminal mischief. Howard allegedly threw a bike at a car parked outside a Washburn Street home. The bike caused a dent in the left front quarter panel of the car. Officers found him in a nearby parking lot. He was held in lieu of $100 bail and is due Monday in Lockport City Court.

• LARCENY: Jon E. Thiel, 18, 58 Park Lane Circle, was charged Thursday morning with petit larceny. A High Street man told police he saw Thiel walk up to his front porch and take his son’s skateboard. The man followed Thiel and caught up with him on the street, where Thiel allegedly dropped the skateboard. He reportedly continued to walk to Erie Street, where officers found him. He is due Monday in Lockport City Court.

Town of Lockport

• BURGLARY: A Sweetwood Drive man reported that he and his girlfriend returned home Wednesday night to find the door of their apartment ajar. Someone had entered the apartment and stolen an envelope containing $750 in cash from the coffee table. About 15 movies, together worth $350, were also taken, the report said.

Newfane

• VANDALISM: A Ridge Road man reported Monday that someone kicked in the door to his home. Nothing was reported stolen, and it appears the suspect did not enter the home, the report said. The damage was estimated at $50.
