Brothers charged after struggle with deputies

Two brothers fighting “out of love” were arrested after Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies and New York State Police responded to 6400 Main Road for a report of two men fighting — one armed with a shovel.

Police said they interviewed a highly intoxicated Kenneth E. Leible, 29, who told them he was fighting with his brother, Henry J. Leible, 31, 4181 Wilson-Burt Road, Wilson.

Kenneth told police the fight was “out of love.” He also said Henry had left the area.

Deputies checked the yard to make sure nobody was injured and reportedly Henry standing behind the house with his hands in his pockets.

A state trooper on the scene asked Henry to take his hands out of his pockets, and he complied but immediately put his hands back in his pockets and started to walk away.

When a trooper tried to stop him, the report said Henry pushed him away and began struggling with police until they used a Taser on him.

Deputies brought Henry to the front of the house, Kenneth came outside and refused to go back inside. He then pulled away from a deputy who grabbed his arm.

Henry was charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree harassment and resisting arrest. Kenneth was charged with obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Both were held in lieu of $1,000 bail and are due Aug. 28 in Pendleton Town Court.

Police snag sign thieves

The attempted theft of a Village of Kenmore sign was narrowly thwarted by police Saturday.

A patrol officer driving by the village’s border with Buffalo spotted three people standing beside the sign, with one woman sitting on top of a man’s shoulders, according to reports.

The woman quickly got down from the sign and threw a metallic object into the bushes before the officer could stop, but the group didn’t run.

Further investigation showed that three of the four bolts holding up the sign had been removed and the thieves had nearly gotten away with the sign.

A search of the area revealed a crescent wrench that had been thrown into the bushes, along with a matching pair of pliers and a hammer, according to reports.

The group, consisting of Krista Lynch, 20, 467 Victoria Blvd., Daniel A. Higgins, 21, 152 Glencove Road, and Clara L. Crowe, 20, 30 Delwood Road, was charged with attempted petit larceny and possession of burglary tools, according to reports.
