Nearly a quarter of a million dollars will be pumped into the area economy this summer when Niagara Falls is host to the annual convention of the Firemen’s Association of New York.
About 600 volunteer firemen and their families are expected to attend the conference, Aug. 19-21, with the delegates from throughout Western New York and Ontario.
“We’re thrilled to welcome FASNY back to the Niagara USA region,” said John Percy, president and chief executive officer of the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corporation..
“By securing such conventions, NTCC is boosting our local economy positively as participants stay longer at our lodging facilities, dine in our restaurants and visit our attractions,” Percy added. Some 300 room have been reserved for the conference.
Sessions will be held at the Conference Center Niagara Falls and at the Crowne Plaza and Days Inn, the hotels where the participants and their families will stay.
A spokesman said the convention will include training and education presentations about hazardous fire situations and steps to prevent similar happenings.
Attendees and their families are also planning to visit various attractions like the Niagara Falls State Park, the Aquarium of Niagara and the new Snow Park Niagara Falls scheduled to open next week.
Edward Tase Jr., general chairman of the 2009 convention, noted it is the seventh time that FASNY has held its convention
“We look forward to providing them with additional professional training to better serve the Niagara region,” Tase said.
