BLOTTER: Police reports published June 25

Niagara Gazette

Niagara Falls

- ARREST: A Falls man was arrested after falsely reporting his car had been stolen. Robert C. Ashcroft, 18, 1634 Eighth St., was charged with offering a false instrument for filing, unattended motor vehicle and endangering the welfare of a child. Ashcroft told police that he had been pulled from his friend’s Cadillac DeVille at 5 p.m. Tuesday, as he was sitting in the vehicle in front of his home, by three juvenile suspects. He said the suspects punched him in the head and took the car. The vehicle was spotted a short time later at Highland and Centre avenues and when police attempted to stop it, three juveniles jumped from the moving car and ran, while the Cadillac hit a parked van. Moments later, Roving Anti-Crime Unit officers apprehended two of the three juveniles. The juvenile suspects told police that they had been “smoking marijuana with Ashcroft” and he had given them the Cadillac to “take a ride.” Ashcroft then admitted to police that he had given the juveniles his friend’s car.

- THEFT: Police are looking for a suspect after a theft in the 600 block of Niagara Street. A 20-year-old man told officers that he was walking in that area at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, when a female suspect grabbed his wallet.

- ARREST: A Falls man was arrested on drunken driving charges after he ran a stop sign on a go-cart. Anthony J. Tamborella, 41, 327 Spruce Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to stop and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police said Tamborella was driving a go-cart at a high rate of speed at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday and ran a stop sign in the 1000 block of Portage Road. Officers said Tamborella failed several field sobriety tests and refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

- THEFT: Officers are looking into a car break-in in the 6500 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard. A 40-year-old woman told police that sometime between noon and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, someone broke into her 2006 Kia Sedona by smashing the driver’s side front window. The victim said a set of keys, a checkbook and some credit and debit cards were taken.

Wheatfield

- SHOPLIFTING: Nicholas G. Gilmer, 16, 1076 99th St., Niagara Falls, was charged Monday with petit larceny. A loss prevention associate for Sears on Williams Road told deputies Gilmer took a set of Sony headphones and a Sony Micro Vault from the electronics department and tried to leave the store without paying. Gilmer was released on an appearance ticket and is due July 17 in Wheatfield Town Court.

City of Lockport

- DRUGS: Benjamin D. Stump, 18, 193 Washburn St., and Dennis M. Schultz, 16, of 95 Adam St., were each charged Monday afternoon with unlawful possession of marijuana. Officers responded to Washburn and South streets to investigate a report of a group of teenagers that had entered a garage. Officers found several teens in the garage, and Stump reportedly told them it was his house. Officers reportedly saw marijuana on a table, the report said.

Town of Lockport

- VANDALISM: An Akron man who owns rental property on South Transit Road reported Monday that a tenant had caused damage after being evicted. The man said the tenant was evicted in the morning, and after he left, the man found damage to the hallway wall, a light fixture, glass on a china cabinet and the screen door and door frame. The damage was estimated at $895. The man reportedly said he has had trouble with the tenant in the past.

Pendleton

- FRAUD: A Feigle Road man reported Monday that someone charged $166.50 to his Victoria’s Secret account in an online transaction.

Newfane

- DISORDERLY: Matthew A. Woodruff, 22, 3025 Springiew Drive, was charged Monday with disorderly conduct. An Autumnview Station man told deputies he’d seen another man walking into the woods behind a nearby home with watering cans. The neighbor said there had been several parties there, and he had smelled marijuana, the report said. Deputies responded and found four marijuana plants behind the home. The Niagara County Drug Task Force seized the plants. While deputies were on the scene, Woodruff arrived to watch and became belligerent, swearing at the deputies. He is being held in lieu of $100 bail.

- DOG BITE: A Hosmer Road woman reported Monday that she was riding her bike on Hoffman Road when a dog ran out and bit the back of her left leg, breaking the skin. The Town of Newfane dog warden responded and secured the dog, and the county health department was notified. The woman was treated by her own doctor.
