The Niagara Air Reserve Station will be receiving $5.7 million to construct an indoor firing range, Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter, chairwoman of the House Committee on Rules, announced Wednesday.
At Rep. Slaughter’s request, the funding was authorized as part of the Fiscal Year 2010 Defense Authorization bill that passed the House of Representatives. Additionally, the funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2010 Military Construction appropriations bill which was reported out of full Committee and will be voted on by the House of Representatives shortly.
“I am proud of the continuing investments being made in the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.” Slaughter said. “I will continue to work toward improving and expanding the base, to provide our servicemen and women with the quality facilities and equipment they deserve.”
The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is the largest employer in Niagara County and as such, is not only critical to our national security but vital to the economic well-being of the region.
Over the years, Slaughter said she has secured millions in federal funding for the air base, most recently securing $9 million for a new dining facility in fiscal year 2009 federal appropriations.
