A planned veterans memorial in the City of Niagara Falls, an upcoming motorcycle rally and several other local projects are in line from additional revenue from Niagara County.

Members of the Niagara County Legislature this week agreed to allocate a total of $50,000 in slot machine revenues from Seneca Niagara Casino to various groups and projects.

Among them is the Niagara Falls Veterans Memorial Commission, which is receiving $10,000 for the construction of a wall similar to the Vietnam Veterans Wall in Washington, D.C. to will be built in Hyde Park and dedicated to all wars and conflicts from the Civil War and beyond.

The monument, consisting of three major sets of monuments is designed to give special honor to those who gave their lives in military service to their country; those received the nations highest honor, the Congressional Medal of Honor and those who served in either war or peace in the service of our country.

In addition, funds were given to:

• Aquarium of Niagara: $5,000 for Aquarium promotional activities

• Pirates Festival: $4,000 to support festival activities

• Celtic Festival: $4,000 to support festival activities

• Barker Business Association: $2,000 to support marketing of the greater Barker area with the launch of a new Web site.

• Niagara Community Center Association: $10,000 to support educational, recreational and social development programs in Niagara Falls.

• Twin Cities Community Outreach: $10,000 to help insulate a building at its North Tonawanda facility.

• Harley Owners Group: $5,000 to support the H.O.G. rally, an event which is expected to bring 3,000 motorcyclists and 4,500 participants to downtown Niagara Falls between July 10 and 12.
