COPS NOTEBOOK: Keep politics out of it
By Rick Pfeiffer E-mail Rick

In a hard fought (and almost endless) Democratic presidential primary campaign, I’m pretty sure almost any endorsement might be welcome by the candidates.
Yet somehow I’m also thinking that Barack Obama would be willing to forego the somewhat spontaneously support of William G. Carter.
Carter, 27, of a Rainbow Boulevard address, was the subject of a police arrest for disorderly conduct early Sunday morning. He was told to leave the scene of a fight outside Club New York (rapidly gaining a reputation for the place to rumble on the weekend) and after briefly departing, returned.
Police, again told Carter to leave the area. When Carter expressed to officers that he had no intention of leaving, they arrested him.
The arrest prompted what can only be described as a racial outburst by Carter who exclaimed, “You’re harassing me because I’m black” and “You’re arresting me because I’m black.”
Having gained the attention of Third Street partiers, Carter then decided to “go political,” shouting out, “Vote for Barack Obama. Vote for Barack Obama to stop the harassment.”
We’ll see if the Illinois U.S. senator decides to add Carter to his list of prominent supporters.
Stylin and profilin’
It’s always good to know what the well-dressed shoplifter is wearing these days. It’s also amazing how little attention some parents pay to what their kids clothing.
Case in point, a recent incident at a Main Street convenience store. Officers responded to a call of a shoplifting incident and when they asked the manager for a description of the suspect he said, “A male wearing an eye patch and a judge’s robe.”
After looking at the store’s security camera tape, one of the officers thought he recognized the suspect and knew where he lived. Police then went to that location and encountered the suspect’s mother.
Asked about the whereabouts of her sons, the following conversation ensued.
“Where is (your son)?”
“He went to the store to pick up a few things.”
“Do you remember what he was wearing?”
“Oh yes, an eye patch and a judge’s robe.”
What was she thinking?
This is more than wrong
There are some crimes for which public flogging would be a better punishment than prison.
One such crime occurred last Saturday in St. Catharines, Ont.
Some low-life sunk to the despicable act of robbing MR. FROSTY. That’s right, this dirtball stole from the local ice cream vendor.
According to Canadian cops, a man approached the vendor, engaged him in conversation and then when the ice cream guy went to take something out of his cart, slammed his hand and held it under a door.
The suspect grabbed the vendor’s “fanny pack” containing all his cash and ran off.
Fortunately, Niagara Regional Police swarmed into the area and arrested Jean-Pierre Robichaud, 19, and charged him with robbery.
I don’t know what kind of penalty he might face, but how about 30 days in a deep freeze, while wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
