Attempted robbery ends in shooting

Police in Niagara Falls are looking for the man behind an attempted robbery-turned-shooting.

A 22-year-old Niagara Falls man was walking northbound through an alley between 17th and 18th streets when he was approached by a man asking for a cigarette.

The man, according to the victim, was about 5-foot-8-inches tall, skinny and of Hispanic descent with a small mustache. The victim said he appeared to be about 18 years old and wore a black hoodie with a zipped-up brown coat.

After the victim responded that he didn’t smoke, the man then demanded money as he reached into the victim’s pockets. The victim told police he replied, “No, you give me money.” The man allegedly pulled out a black handgun and the victim grabbed him.

The two scuffled and the gun went off two or three times throughout. The victim reported punching the armed man four or five times and then fleeing the scene after knocking him down. He did not turn back to see what the armed man did.

The victim said went he arrived at his mother’s house, his left arm felt numb.

Upon further examination, he realized he had been shot in the left bicep.

The victim said he had noticed a white man observing the confrontation throughout, but the man did not say or do anything. The victim said he has seen the white man around, but not the Hispanic man, and thinks the white man may have been an accomplice to the attempted robbery.

The white man was described as wearing a black baseball cap backward and a black hoodie with designs on the chest and arms.
