WILSON: Police investigate hazing

Incident allegedly occurred on bus ride home from recent baseball game

WILSON — Wilson High School baseball games have been suspended in the wake of a New York State Police investigation of an alleged hazing incident that occurred on the bus ride back from a recent road game.

“Right now our games are suspended indefinitely,” Athletics Director Charlie Jufer said Saturday evening. “It could be over tonight or tomorrow. I’m hoping it’s done soon.”

Wilson’s home game against Barker scheduled for Saturday afternoon was postponed, while the status of Monday’s game under the lights at Veterans Park is still up in the air.

The incident reportedly involved a varsity baseball player and a junior varsity player. Jufer met with parents of junior varsity players Saturday afternoon. He met with parents of varsity players Friday.

“The only way to get this thing over with is to let the state police do their job,” Jufer said. The police are investigating who was involved.

The New York State Police in Lockport confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation in Wilson, but said other details would not be forthcoming until a news release was issued. The state police are expected to issue a news release today.

The incident happened on a bus ride home from an away game within the last few weeks. Wilson played both Niagara Falls and Niagara Catholic at Sal Maglie Stadium during that time, along with a tournament last weekend at Lyndonville and its Niagara-Orleans League opener at Albion this past week.

The varsity team is comprised of more than half freshmen and sophomores and the JV team has a large group of seventh- and eighth-graders because numbers were so low this season for tryouts.

T.J. Baia is the varsity coach.
