BLOTTER: Police reports published April 14

Niagara Gazette

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Police and the Niagara County Health Department are investigating how almost two dozen urine samples, bound for a Cheektowaga lab ended up behind a Portage Road supermarket.

City firefighters said they were approached by the market manager at 11:17 a.m. Friday, after he found 20 labeled and sealed bottles of human urine behind his store. Firefighters secured the bottles in bio-hazard bags and then turned them over to police.

Officers took the bottles to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where they found a shipping label that showed the samples were from the office of Dr. A. Hakeem Syed, MD, at Lakeshore Behavioral Health and were being transported to MedLab, at 600 Cayuga Road, Cheektowaga. The label also indicated the samples were taken on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Niagara County Health Department is now trying to determine who was transporting the urine and how it ended up behind the supermarket.
