Lewiston burglary suspects caught after search

Niagara County Sheriff's deputies and Lewiston police arrested two suspects in connection with an attempted midday burglary in the town.

Michael J. Nolfi, 27, and Kevin M. Gibson, 32, both of Lewiston, were charged with second-degree burglary with bail set at $5,000.

Authorities have released few details so far, but say a homeowner discovered the suspects inside his house about 1 p.m. Monday, in the area of Creek and Thornwood roads. The suspects fled and a search was launched using foot patrols, a helicopter and K-9 units. New York State Police and U.S. Border Patrol units assisted in the search.

Sheriff's deputies were able to capture the suspects in a nearby field and take them in for questioning by investigators.

Anyone with further information related to the incident is asked to contact the Niagara County Sheriff's Investigator Stephen Gaydos at 438-3407.
