Niagara Gazette — Color your family summer memories and get creative with a variety of art activities at Artpark’s Free Family Saturdays. The fun kicks off this weekend and runs every Saturday through July 27 from noon to 4 p.m. in Artpark’s Outdoor Amphitheater. N.U.R.T. (Niagara University Repertory Theatre) will perform each week along with other guest performers.

A variety of free “Make and Take” workshops are available. These include, The Paint Space, Costume Closet, Sand Box, Face Painting, and the Pottery Wheel. Children must be 4 feet or taller to throw pottery on the wheel. Hand-building and other clay molding tools are available for kis under 4 feet.

Artpark Alumni Performance Artist, Bill Stewart with the help of his son, Greg Stewart will bring back “Clay Wrapping” during Family Saturdays this Saturday and July 20. First performed at Artpark in 1975, clay is rolled into slabs and volunteers are wrapped head to toe (faces are still visible: it is safe and you can still see/breathe).

Red clay will be used and it stains clothing so if you plan to volunteer, wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
