Lewiston-Porter leadership changes hands

Niagara Gazette — A leadership flip has been completed in Lewiston-Porter.

The school board voted to make last year's school board vice president, Michael Gentile, its 2013-14 president Tuesday. Jodee Riordan, president the last two school years, will step back to No. 2.

While the board got itself situated, with two new members taking the oath of office, focus shifted to making a number of year-long committee appointments and contractual agreements.

Of course, those two new members are both women – Betty Warrick and Anna Wright, who ran unopposed this past May. Combined with Riordan and Mollie Lucas, who joined the board last year, there's a new majority in local education leadership the likes of which never existed before in Lew-Port.

"This is the first-ever female majority on the board," Riordan said.

But what will it mean for education? Riordan said the women are not always going to agree, but they do all come frim the same place, opinion-wise.

She said the four voices will make for an interesting year coming up.

"We're just excited for the new year," she said. "We're all coming from the same place. We've got children in the schools. So I think we're all of similar mind. This is going to be a good year."
