Falls family court magistrate charged with DWI following crash

Niagara Gazette — A Family Court magistrate has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a head-on, rollover collision on the Robert Moses Parkway late Wednesday night.

Lewiston police and New York State Police troopers responded to the accident at 10:10 p.m. and found a vehicle on its side on the northbound lane of the parkway.

Investigators said an SUV, driven by Timothy Cooper, 59, of Derby, a Support Magistrate serving in Niagara County Family Court in the Falls, had collided with another vehicle.

The 74-year driver of that vehicle was taken to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Cooper was charged with DWI and moving from a lane unsafely. He refused to submit to further breath testing. Other charges are pending.
