Niagara Gazette — LEWISTON — Accident investigators from both the Lewiston Police Department and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office are still working on their probe of a crash that has taken life of a 71-year-old woman.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, passed away from her injuries at the Erie County Medical Center last week.

Investigators said the woman was walking her dog and was crossing Center Street on Sunday, June 2, when a car making a right-hand turn from Seventh Street struck both her and her pet.

The accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. and the victim was treated at the scene by Lewiston No. 1 EMS, before being flown by Mercy Flight to ECMC. She was in critical condition when she arrived at ECMC.

Police said the victim's dog was also injured, but is expected to recover.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the car that hit the woman. Lewiston police said they will review the final accident reconstruction report before determining if they will be any charges stemming from the accident.
