Historic Association of Lewiston's audio wands taking tourists on trips through village

Niagara Gazette — Tour season in the Village of Lewiston is officially under way. And this year, those who care to guide themselves will have assistance from a new technological toy.

The Historical Association of Lewiston, through a grant from the East Hill Foundation, purchased 10 audio “wands” which help guide visitors using some key information about hot spots in the village. Like the Frontier House and the association’s museum.

It’s the first time the self-guided tours will come with a built-in audio component.

Using a companion map of the village, the wands provide the listener more in-depth information about the rich history Lewiston offers, according to the association. History buffs will learn about Lewiston’s role in the Underground Railroad, about famous – and infamous – personalities and why Lewiston is located where it is.

Wands are available for free borrowing by visiting the association’s museum at 469 Plain St., Lewiston, or the village’s welcome center, 895 Center St., Lewiston, during normal business hours. Though the wands are free, interested individuals will need to deposit a driver’s license upon pickup.

For more information, call the museum at 754-4214 or the welcome center at 754-7030.
