Daniel Gibson appointed to Lewiston Village Board

The Lewiston Village Board is once again fully manned.

Mayor Terry Collesano completed his appointment of Daniel Gibson to join the trustees, filling in the spot vacated when Dennis Brochey left to become town supervisor.

Gibson, 57, is a political newcomer, though he's no stranger to the village, having lived within its borders for more than two decades, having married into the Hibbard family.

"I'm a new face," he said following his swearing in at village hall Monday. "I've never been involved in something like this. But I have a lot of ideas to make the village better."

Collesano's appointment will keep Gibson on the board through June. He'll need to run for election to fill the remaining two years of Brochey's original term, which he said he intends to do

A registered Republican, he said political party won't factor into any decision he partakes in. Instead, he said, he'll examine what's best for the community and attempt to assist it in becoming an even better place than it currently is.

Doing so will require him to catch up on a lot of the village's current and future plans. He said he hasn't paid a lot of attention to the items coming through village hall recently but has been meeting with Collesano to be brought up to speed.

He's hoping to be a quick study.

"I'm coming in fresh," he said. "I met last week with the mayor to go over some of the major things."

Originally from Amherst, Gibson has been married to his wife, Jamie, for 27 years and has two children, Jordan, his daughter, 24, and his son Taylor, 16. He's currently an employee at the Seneca Niagara Casino. His department is responsible for overseeing the wardrobe of its employees, he said.
