LEW-PORT: Superintendent appointment not ready yet

Staff Reports
Niagara Gazette

The Lewiston-Porter Board of Education is heading down the final stretch to hire a new superintendent, but the final details still need to be worked out.

The board was hoping to name either Oren Cook or R. Christopher Roser to the top spot at Tuesday’s special meeting, but contract negotiations could not be finalized in time, said board president Robert Weller.

“It’s still in the litigation phase,” he said. “It’s slow when you get lawyers involved.”

The board is ready to make an appointment though, Weller said. A board majority of at least 6-1 has committed to backing one of the candidates and the appointee-in-waiting has accepted the board’s offer.

Weller is hopeful the contract can be finalized before the board meets again Aug. 19.
