LETTER: A jazzy time in Lewiston

A jazzy time in Lewiston

I was proud of the spirit I saw in my hometown at the Historic Lewiston Jazz Fest the weekend of Aug. 22. I have lived in New York City since shortly after graduating from Lewiston-Porter in 1975, and each time I come home, I’m moved by the work being done there by people like Mayor Richard Soluri and Chamber President Sandra Hays Mies.

My wife, Jody Sandhaus, and I were pleased to be part of the performance schedule on the Jazz Fest as, I know, were all the other players featured. Somehow the festival’s organizers, including Soluri, Hays-Mies, Carol Calato, Ron Corsaro and others, were able to make the festival shine once again, even in the face of the loss of much of the funding they’d enjoyed for the previous years’ events. Also, each of the local businesses I patronized over the course of the festival were courteous and good-natured ambassadors of the village. As a transplanted Lewistonian, I thank them for the care they’re taking of my hometown.
