LETTERS: We need to use less fuel, not drill for more
Niagara Gazette
We need to use less fuel, not drill for more
We, as a nation, should know by now that short term fixes never ultimately alleviate problems at hand. In regards to the high-priced oil epidemic more drilling is definitely not the answer.
The real answer to this dilemma is to provide Americans with fuel efficient cars, tax incentives for riding mass transit and tele-commuting, and consumer rebates funded by repealing billions in tax breaks for Big Oil. No matter how much we drill, we could never provide consumers with real relief if we continue to greedily search for more land to use.

Country has blight, too
Normally, when you think of absentee landlords, you think of the city. Well, folks, they exist in the Town of Porter, too. The property next door to me at 2488 Youngstown Lockport Road in the hamlet of Ransomville, has been a gradually deteriorating rental property for the last three to four years.
The various tenants have neglected the buildings and grounds and have even discarded old tires, barrels of used oil and other unwanted items in the tall grass behind the barns. Now the property sits unoccupied and the grass continues to grow and wild animals have been seen wandering into the barn during the day.
What I can’t understand is why the elected officials of the Town of Porter allow this type of neglect to continue. I am concerned about this property as a matter of community public health and safety. I am concerned about how this type of neglect affects the value of all neighborhood properties. Furthermore, why should I have to look at this eyesore daily?
Town of Porter officials, why have you let this matter slide? Please respond and do the job that we have elected you to do.
