LETTERS: India tourist Increase to Niagara

Niagara Gazette

India tourist Increase to Niagara

In response to the article by Don Glynn, I believe the true answer here is the modesty of John Percy of the Niagara Tourism and Convention Corp. Knowing Percy and the thought process behind his ideas to increase tourism in Niagara is a part of why Percy has personally traveled to India to promote Niagara and its attraction to the people of India and its Department of Tourism.

When Niagara experiences an influx of International tourists, locals tend to surmise the reasons as to why they are here “all of a sudden.” There is usually one good answer — the Niagara Falls Tourism Board has reached out to promote this city and bring about its positives in a “new light,” thus increasing tourism dollars and keeping our service industries in business.

A glimpse of better times

On July 10, I went into Niagara Falls, Columbus Square actually, on Pine Avenue and 15th Street. I got there a little early and had the opportunity to observe the neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. All I hear about is how decrepit the city has become and all the bad things that accompany the slum areas that get all the attention in the news and on television. What I saw was reminiscent of when I lived in the city 50 years ago. The homes on 15th Street were well kept up, flowers everywhere, grass mowed, clean front yards and people sitting on their porches. Neighbors walking across the street to visit like the old days and you could see that these were people who took pride in their homes even if they were just renting. I spoke to one woman and could see that she spent a lot of time keeping up the appearance of her home. I loved watching everyone walking back and forth, talking, sitting and just enjoying the pleasant evening.

The entertainment in the square was great but I got to relive a time when people cared about their homes and neighbors and I want to commend that entire block. Keep up the good work! If the city ever comes back to life, you people will have shared a great part in assisting it to do so. Because you believe in Niagara Falls and work hard at doing your part, we salute you and it is great knowing that you can make a difference.

Time to impeach the president

If we do not impeach this man and remove several of his cadre as well, we are condoning treason and attacks against our unifying documents: the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This presidency has managed more traitorous acts against the people than any of those that have been impeached and much more grievous than those who were assassinated. I think that there was fear of who would take the office previously but now that we know that there are replacements in the wings, beginning the impeachment is mandatory. Otherwise, congress has also abdicated its responsibility and should be swept clean of the collaborators who supported or the cowards to allowed the traitorous acts to continue over the last eight years.

Please do the right thing. Without impeaching this presidency, you are accepting his acts as appropriate, in which case we will see a great deal more of it in the future. The action needed now is to hold him and all of his crew accountable for the traitorous acts flung at the public with the belief that they were above the law. Take America back to accountability under the law.

This presidency is much more lethal to our country than terrorism.
