LETTERS: Redesign Robert Moses

Staff Reports
Niagara Gazette

Redesign Robert Moses

The removal of the Robert Moses Parkway would be economically detrimental to the entire region, particularly to Niagara Falls, Lewiston and Youngstown.

The citizens and elected leaders of the western region of Niagara County should work collectively and develop a compromise plan that will compliment and enhance our region.

Consideration should be given to the type of parkway that our Canadian neighbors are so proud of and many Americans enjoy. It will sustain economic development, afford us another tourist attraction, provide ecotourism and recreation for families while satisfying the needs of the elderly and the disabled.

Total removal of the northern parkway is ridiculous and repugnant, and we can have it all with a redesigned and smart parkway. Our region requires a common sense vision.

Richard F. Soluri, mayor

Village of Lewiston

Off base on Broderick

I’ve known County Treasurer David Broderick my whole life and have been proud to call him my father. He’s the kind of man you go to when you want to know the right thing to do. Always the person his family and friends has sought when they need help, guidance or an understanding heart. These are only a couple of reasons people think so highly of him. They do this because they know him as such a good, honest and decent person. So many wonderful people around Niagara County have worked hard to make sure he was elected time and time again because they believed in him as I always have and always will.

When my father was assigned the Snyder Estate, as with any of his other estates that he is required to handle as county treasurer, he puts a lot of time and attention into everything to ensure it’s done properly. Hours are spent on the smallest details. My father and mother, Jane Broderick, have done nothing wrong and never would, which is why I’m so upset about the attempts at smearing their names.

David has been a good and honorable servant for Niagara County for 37 years with not one incident.

Nearing the end of his service, as he had hoped to retire in the near future, why would you try to discredit him as you’ve tried with only the accusation of one disgruntled attorney, Teresa Snyder?

If Snyder had a problem with the use of my mother, Jane, as selling agent, then why didn’t she or her siblings or even their attorneys object to it when it was made clear to them early on.

I ask myself, why would good, honest people ever want to be in politics when they can look forward to all this? When all is said and done, and the audit is completed, Broderick will be cleared of any wrongdoing. Let’s hope you give it the coverage it deserves.

Meanwhile, you care nothing about the fact that not only are you hurting David, but also his entire family who know, love and respect him.

His son Capt. Andrew J. Broderick, who serves in the Marine Corp. as his father had, is a helicopter pilot who will be leaving for Afghanistan this year on his third tour in the Middle East just to protect your freedom to paint an ugly picture of his father.

His other son, Sgt. David S. Broderick Jr., is a decorated officer who risked his own life trying to save the life of a young man from a burning vehicle while a sheriff’s deputy with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department.

I know you have an obligation to get news out there and it isn’t an easy one all the time, but please get the whole picture before you try to ruin someone’s reputation. Especially since David has earned such a good reputation here in Niagara County.
