Win a wedding at Rapids Theatre's bridal open house Feb. 22

Niagara Gazette — The chance to win a free wedding reception is already driving up ticket requests for the third annual Bridal Open House at the Rapids Theatre.

The event was created three years ago to show off the theater as an upscale wedding location. The Rapids, at 1711 Main St., was renovated five years ago as a performance facility event center that includes special light displays and a professional sound system. Brides-to-be who attend the event, from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 22., will also get a chance to sample hors d’oeuvres and cake from Rich’s Catering, the center’s exclusive caterer.

“The brides that come in will be able to tour the theater, hear the sound system, see the different light displays, tour of upstairs and downstairs and then they’ll be able to sample the food from Rich’s,” said Marie Hutchins, the wedding coordinator for the theater. Last year about 100 people attended the event, but this year, due to the wedding giveaway, about that many tickets have already been requested online, she said, adding that the event is free, but pre-registration is requested.

“We thought this event would give Niagara Falls and the Rapids some great exposure,” she said.

All weddings that are booked before March 1 will be entered to win a free wedding, which will include the room rental, a four hour open bar, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, a custom designed wedding cake and more. A lucky couple will be randomly selected and notified on March 3.

Free tickets to the open house are available online at www.rapidsweddings.com. For more information contact Marie Hutchins at marie@rapidstheatre.com.

Tom Tower thinks it's a crime to throw away good food. The gentleman farmer from Youngstown is noted for his passion for agricultural craftsmanship, so seeing his carefully grown produce lying wasted in the field causes him great distress. He was one of the first farmers in the region to bring his apples by the truckload to the Western New York Food Bank. It was pure logic and generosity that prompted him to do so, but when the food bank received some state money to buy fresh produce, Tower and Justin Guerin, food bank director, worked out a deal. One month would be a donation, the next month, the bank would pay a fair price for the apples.
