• ARREST: A Fort Erie, Ont., man was arrested following a customs stop at 10 p.m. Friday at Rainbow Bridge crossing in the first block of Niagara Street. Douglas LaForme, 61, 369 Phipps St., Fort Erie, Ont., was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while impaired after he was stopped by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Agents report having to approach his vehicle at the U.S. customs checkpoint after he wouldn’t pull up to the window despite multiple waves. After being pulled over, agents report LaForme was swaying on his feet and failed several field sobriety tests. He was taken to police headquarters, where a breath test revealed a 0.05 percent blood alcohol content.
