Cops seek DQ robbery suspect

Niagara Gazette — A gun-totting bandit staged a daring daylight robbery at the Dairy Queen restaurant in the in the 2400 block of Niagara Street late Monday morning.

Falls police say the armed robber entered the restaurant around 10:48 a.m., holding a handgun and demanding cash from the registers. Investigators said the suspect keep the gun by his side and never pointed the weapon at anyone.

No one was injured in the hold-up.

"There was only one customer in the restaurant at the time, and we're not sure he was even aware that the robbery took place," Detective Lt. Mike Trane said.

The suspect got an undisclosed amount of money and ran from the restaurant. He was last seen heading north, toward Ferry Avenue.

Investigators said the suspect appeared to be in his early 20s, 5-foot -10 with a thin build. He was wearing baggy blue jeans, a plain grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled tight and a white bandana covering most of his face.

"It's hard for us to determine the race and hair color of the suspect because of the way in which he concealed his face with the hood and bandana," Trane said.

Detectives did release pictures of the suspect taken from a restaurant security camera. They are also reviewing surveillance video from the crime scene.

Anyone who may have information about the robbery or a possible suspect is asked to contact Falls detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division at 286-4553.
