Man damages door running from Newfane Town Court

Editor's note: The Niagara County Sheriff's Office clarified some of the information from this report, which ran in Wednesday's Gazette.

A man in Newfane Town Court facing incarceration at Niagara County Jail for violating conditions of his parole ran from the courthouse, damaging a door in the process.

He is now wanted on two warrants.

Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said the man was in court voluntarily for a scheduled hearing on June 25.

The report said the man was appearing for a parole violation and when Justice Bruce Barnes announced that he was being sent to Niagara County Jail, the man bolted out an east-side court room door, causing $200 damage to the door. The damage to the door was reported Saturday.

The man is now wanted on a warrant on the original charges as related to his parole — fourth-degree grand larceny and third-degree identity theft — and a second warrant for second-degree criminal contempt and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
