Teen charged in connection with armed robbery
Falls police arrested a teen in connection with the Wednesday night robbery of a convenience store on 19th Street.
Officers were called to the store about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday and two employees reported that two men wearing masks covering their mouthes and noses came into the store when no customers were inside and demanded money. One of the men held a handgun while the other jumped over the counter and took the till and money from a register after employees opened it. He also grabbed cigarettes before the two men fled the store, running west on Welch Avenue.
Upon responding to the scene, a detective and an officer began walking west on Welch Avenue and noticed a gate open on the 1700 block. Walking through the yard and into the alley, they spotted several people near a car parked in the alley. Two men, one of whom matched the description of one of the suspects, quickly began walking away, then run from the area.
Sharod L. Gulley, 17, 2225 Cudaback Ave., was caught by police. From video surveillance at the store, Gulley was the suspect with the gun. He placed it in the pocket of his sweatshirt as he was leaving the store, police said, but when he was caught, the sweatshirt and hat he'd been wearing were gone and couldn't be located by police.
Gulley was charged with first- and second-degree robbery.
