BLOTTER: Police reports published Oct. 18

Niagara Falls

• ASSAULT: Police are investigating an assault in the area of 18th Street and South Avenue. A 26-year-old man told officers he was walking in that area at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, when a male suspect came up behind him and hit him in the head with a socket wrench. The victim said he began fighting with the suspect and was hit in the head with the wrench another three or four times. The suspect then ran from the scene.

• BURGLARY: Officers are looking into a burglary in the 8700 block of Pershing Avenue. A 70-year-old man told police that sometime between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, someone broke into his home by unknown means. The victim said a Tiffany bowl and plate, some pocket watches and parts, some costume jewelry and two Victorian candle holders were taken.

Town of Lockport

• LARCENY: Unlimited Cleaning Services reported three 30-pound propane tanks had been taken from a locked cage in the rear parking lot on Lockport Olcott Road in Wrights Corners. A report was filed with the Sheriff's Office.

City of Lockport

• DWI: Alexandra C. Newell, 22, 6491 Dysinger Road, Apt. 14, was charged Thursday with driving while intoxicated and traffic infractions. Lockport Police said Newell's vehicle was parked illegally on Heath Street, but when officers turned around to give her a ticket, Newell reportedly took off at a high rate of speed. She allegedly ran through two stop signs and was finally pulled over. Police determined Newell was intoxicated. She is due Monday in city court.
