LOCKPORT

Nurse charged with grand larceny

A former nurse at Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport, has been charged in the theft of $1,350 on June 18 from a purse in the hospital's emergency room.

Kristina M. Brodfuehrer, 28, 391 Wheatfield St., lower, North Tonawanda, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and petit larceny. Brodfuehrer, who was charged on Aug. 8 and appeared in Lockport City Court on Monday, now works at Mount St. Mary's in Lewiston, according to police.

According to the report, an elderly woman took her husband to ENH-Lockport around 2:30 a.m. on June 18 for a medical emergency. While she was in the emergency room, she placed her purse just above her husband's bed. At some point during the night, someone had gone through the victim's purse and removed cash.

The only time the purse was out of sight was when the nurse "Kristina" was in the room with the curtains drawn. The case was turned over to detectives and Brodfuehrer was charged and released on her own recognizance.

Neighbor takes cable and electricity

Police say a man with a Spruce Street address hooked up cable TV and electricity to a Locust Street apartment.

Michael P. Salhany, 35, 10  Spruce St., upper, was charged with identity theft and theft of services on Monday and charged with petit larceny on Wednesday.

According to the report, on Nov. 26 an Illinois man checked his credit report and discovered an outstanding debt from Time Warner. He was advised that his information had been used to open an account in Lockport.

The allegations were investigated in December and police say Salhany admitted to having a cable TV and NYSEG account in the victim's name. He agreed to appear at the Lockport police station on Dec. 5 but never appeared. An arrest package was filed.
