Three charged with welfare fraud

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office on Monday reported that three county residents are facing welfare fraud charges.

Barnadet Zabaneh, 61, of Niagara Falls has been charged with third-degree grand larceny, third-degree welfare fraud and six counts of first-degree offering to file a false instrument. Her husband, Suheil Zabaneh is also facing the same charges but he is currently in the country of Jordan, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Welfare Fraud Unit and the Niagara County Department of Social Services.

Also charged was James Stewart, 73, of Lockport with the misuse of food stamps, third-degree welfare fraud and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

An investigation revealed that Stewart was using the benefits of a deceased individual.
