Falls police close down 12th Street crack house

Niagara Gazette — Falls Police narcotics detectives hit a 12th Street crack house Tuesday and left with drugs, a loaded handgun and two "frequent flyer" dealers.

"They're certainly no strangers to us," Narcotics Division Lt. Ted Weed said of Rashan Vincent and Victor Travis.

Vincent, who has a lengthy record of drug-related arrests, is currently on pre-trial release on federal drug charges as well.

Investigators said they were drawn to the home where they found Vincent and Travis by a rash of community tips.

"There were just numerous neighborhood complaints about that place," Weed said. " And we're trying to address the concerns of the block clubs about these quality of life issues."

Detectives, armed with a search warrant, raided the home around 9 p.m. and found both dealers there. They also seized about a quarter of an ounce of crack cocaine and a loaded 9-mm semi-automatic Ruger handgun.

On the second floor of the home, investigators discovered what appeared to be a recently harvested marijuana growing operation.

In addition to the investigators and officers, city housing inspections chief Dennis Virtuoso was also on the scene and condemned the house.

"From now on, when we do these quality of life search warrants, we are going to call in the building inspectors," Weed said. "If we can, we're gonna get these (drug houses) shut down."

Vincent, 32, was charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Travis, 55, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of marijuana.
