• THEFT: Officers are looking into a theft from the 1600 block of Niagara Avenue. A 45-year-old man told police that a female friend and another woman stopped by his apartment at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. When the women left his apartment, the man noticed that his car keys were missing. The victim said he then went outside and sawn his friend driving away in his 2002 Suzuki Vitara.
• BURGLARY: Police are investigating a burglary in the 500 block of 22nd Street. A 70-year-old woman told officers that sometime between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Sunday someone broke into her home by breaking a rear bedroom window. The victim said two bedrooms and an office were ransacked. The victim said a watch, some ammunition, some costume jewelry and some prescription medications were taken.
• DWI: Ashley E. Heinz, 26, no residence listed, Barker, was charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office fielded a report of a vehicle striking a utility pole in the 1900 block of Johnson Creek Road around 4:15 a.m. and sent a deputy to check it out. The deputy found Heinz's unoccupied vehicle and later found Heinz hiding in a woodpile behind a nearby residence. Heinz was sent to Eastern Niagara Hospital, Newfane, for examination and was charged there, according to the sheriff's report. Heinz refused a chemical test, the report said. Meanwhile, Johnson Creek Road between Hartland-Somerset Townline and Coleman roads was closed while National Grid replaced the damaged utility pole, the report said. Heinz received a ticket to appear Dec. 5 in Somerset town court.
